SPAR Clonakilty has officially launched its new-look store following a €250,000 investment supported by BWG Foods, facilitating the complete refurbishment of its retail premises, and creating 15 new jobs locally.
The newly-refurbished 10,000 sq ft store has been redesigned as a multi-service retail destination incorporating Spar’s ‘Tasty Deli’, an Insomnia coffee department, Subway and Apache restaurants, an ice cream parlour, and an extended off-licence. The store also now features a selection of delicious food offerings in a large foodcourt setting.
Commenting on the launch, store owner Ger Harte said he was very proud to have launched the new look store and was delighted with the response from new and existing customers. ‘With a heritage that dates back over 50 years, and a partnership with Spar stretching back to 1990, we hope that this investment and store redesign will ensure that we continue providing our local community with the same level of high quality, competitively priced products and friendly service for many years to come,’ he said.
Willie O’Byrne, managing director at BWG Food, owners and operators of the SPAR brand in Ireland, said: ‘It is fantastic to see the Harte’s invest in these game changing improvements to their store in order to provide an even better range and service to people in Clonakilty and surrounding areas. I applaud Ger’s vision for the business and wish him and all his team the very best in the future.’
The store, which is owned and operated by Ger Harte, has been in operation for over 52 years and this year celebrates its 25 year partnership with the SPAR brand and its owners BWG Foods.
‘None of this would have been possible without the support and determination of our staff who continue to go beyond the call of duty in delivering a top quality service to our local community. Their commitment, not just to retailing, but also to the extended Clonakilty community through our local sponsorship programmes, has defined the way in which we operate and has enabled us to grow our business,’ said Ger.
Spar Clonakilty provides employment for 42 people locally and is open from 7.30pm-10pm seven days a week.
