N71 crash near Ballydehob results in death of elderly man and injuries to boy (10)

A fatal crash on the Bantry to Ballydehob road last night has resulted in the death of an elderly motorist and injuries to a 10-year-old boy.

A fatal crash on the Bantry to Ballydehob road last night has resulted in the death of an elderly motorist and injuries to a 10-year-old boy.

The road is closed this morning for forensic examination, and diversions are in place.

 The accident occurred between two vehicles at Bawnshanaclogh, Ballydehob on the N71 at approximately 9.50pm.

 The male driver (80 years) was fatally injured and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem will take place today.

The 10-year-old male passenger was injured and taken to CUH with non life-threatening injuries.

The other male driver was the sole occupant of his vehicle and received minor injuries.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
