His fellow councillors' objections to the idea are nothing more than nit-picking and attempts to score cheap political points; in truth, they're only sorry he beat them to the punch.

SIR – Cllr Danny Collins’ recent motion to allocate €30,000 to each sitting councillor to spend as they see fit is a top-drawer initiative and thus deserving of massive public support. His fellow councillors’ objections to the idea are nothing more than nit-picking and attempts to score cheap political points; in truth, they’re only sorry he beat them to the punch.

In an unrelated matter, Leap Community Hall is long overdue its piano upgrade (€3400), needs a new fleet of rainproof umbrellas (€450), and is running worryingly low on pink and luminous green paint (three tins of each at €20 a pop should see us through the winter).

In an even more distantly-related matter – and arguably personal, though I dispute such a claim in the strongest possible terms – my phone needs credit (€20), the car tax is due (€101), and I wouldn’t mind a week in the Bahamas in the New Year (approximately €1,500, rising to a maximum of €3,000).

Cash will be fine, and I’m available at the councillor’s convenience. Many thanks.

Dave Cal,

Leap.
