A 48-YEAR-OLD Kinsale man appeared before a special sitting of Macroom District Court on Monday evening on drugs charges.

Liam O’Connell of 11 Presentation Terrace, Kinsale, was charged with possession of and intent to supply cocaine with an estimated street value of €175,000 and cannabis with an estimated street value of €60,000.

Gda Colin O’Mahony of the West Cork Divisional Drugs Unit in Bandon gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution on Sunday, October 29th, and the defendant made no reply to the charges. He was given consent to bail, subject to a number of conditions, and Judge Mary Dorgan fixed a bond of €7,500 – with no cash required – and remanded him on bail to appear at Bandon District Court on November 16th for DPP’s direction.

Judge Dorgan granted free legal aid subject to a statement of means. Defendant was represented by solicitor Frank Buttimer.
