A BOOK featuring portraits of 100 Bere Islanders, aged from two to 80, will be officially launched later this month.

The project, which was instigated by Bere Island Projects Group and supported by Cork County Council’s Creative Community Award, saw Cork-based photographer Ed Godsell spend a fortnight on the island in May of this year, getting to know the island and its people.

At the end of the fortnight, Ed set up a photographic studio in the local community centre and over the course of a weekend, islanders came along to sit for their photograph, and provide brief biographical details.

Ed said spending the two weeks on the island in the run up to the taking the islanders’ pictures was invaluable. The launch event on October 20th at 2.30pm in the Heritage Centre will see Ed Godsell present the island community with three bound books of the photographs which will be displayed at the centre, and at the two island bars.
