AS part of the generosity of the Bantry Credit Union, it has graciously allowed the use of some of its window space to various organisations and individuals from the town.
One of those groups is the Bantry Historical and Archaeological Society which has just decorated one of the windows inside with its history.
The principal aim of the window display is to show the publication of the newly published journal which is volume five in its history.

Amongst the papers are studies on the Mealagh Valley and Bantry, the Workhouse that stood over the town, William O’Sullivan and Carriganass Castle, Garryvurcha Church on Church Road, Margaret Connolly’s diary, the shooting of William Bird, Edith Newman Devlin and what makes a great Irish street.
With over one hundred and sixty pages on the local area it is a bargain and is available from Bantry Tourist Office, Bantry Bookshop and SuperValu.
Also on exhibition in the former Credit Union are the earlier volumes and some of the good deeds that the society undertakes which include an inventory of who is buried where in the abbey, the local museum, and its program of talks and lectures.
New members of the society are always welcome.
