OVER 200 Cork business people heard Skibbereen woman Marie Davis address The Marketing Institute Cork’s January event entitled ‘Empowering Your Digital Future’ in Cork recently.

Held in association with the Cork Chamber, the event featured speaker Ms Davis, Head of SME Sales at Google present a statistics-led synopsis of the changing media habits of the Irish population.

Ms Davis underpinned her presentation with three core elements: ‘Understanding your customers, winning the moments that matter, and being agile’. She explained that in order to understand your customers, you need to see what they are searching for in a brand, company and product and target your campaigns accordingly.

A good free tool to decide where to begin your targeting is Google Trends – where you enter a search term, see the history on that search term and target your campaign accordingly. ‘Winning the moments that matter,’ Davis explained, referring to the importance of always being ‘present, relevant and optimised’.

‘With 86% of Irish people online on a daily basis, browsing, connecting, looking for advice, products and services etc, it is more important than ever that businesses really consider their online presence.

‘Only 63% of SME’s in Ireland have an online presence so it is crucial that businesses be agile and adapt to these changes and go online,’ said Davis.
