LOCAL businesses are the backbone of a robust regional economy, according to West Cork's Marie Davis, head of customer solutions at Google.

LOCAL businesses are the backbone of a robust regional economy, according to West Cork’s Marie Davis, head of customer solutions at Google.

She was speaking at Network Ireland West Cork’s event titled ‘Powering Fearlessness and Digital Transformation’ in Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre.

Louise Bunyan, founder of SmartFox.ie, also gave tips on a winning LinkedIn profile.

Marie, from Skibbereen said: ‘Irish businesses are facing serious unknowns in the coming months, and protecting our local economies is going to be important. However, with challenges come opportunities, and to leverage these opportunities businesses must embrace digital trends, and utilise the tools that are out there to make them successful online. We understand that ‘being online’ can be a very broad and daunting expression for many small businesses.’

Louise added: ‘I’ve trained over 800 people in LinkedIn and most of my trainees have significant industry experience, but they’re hesitant when it comes to social media platforms, for example, they’re not on Twitter and rarely use Facebook.  However, LinkedIn is the exception because it’s a business platform and they can see that it is where they need to be, but they have what I call ‘the LinkedIn Fear’.

Ciara Byrne, president of Network Ireland West Cork, said the event  gave their members helpful advice on how to drive their business forward digitally.

Network Ireland West Cork holds networking events for members and guests in different locations in West Cork, generally on the last Wednesday of every month.
