GOVERNMENT approval has been given to develop a new state-of-the-art swimming pool in Dunmanway.

Welcoming the news, Dunmanway native, Michael McCarthy, TD, said: ‘As the local TD and also a regular user of the pool I have
championed this issue for many years and especially at national level since my election to Dáil Éireann and I am delighted that this day has finally arrived.

‘Government support has been crucial to the success of this development. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport has listened attentively to the strong case that I have consistently made to Government. That is the need to deliver excellent sports facilities for the people of Dunmanway and the surrounding area.

‘The proposals for the new pool were developed some time ago and it is good to see these plans being brought nearer to fruition. The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has already ring-fenced approximately €3.8 million for the pool with the new building expected to use eco-friendly design and incorporate a 25-metre pool with associated leisure facilities.

’The new pool is an exciting proposal for Dunmanway and I hope that this approval will allow real progress to be made on building this ambitious project. There is no doubt that this development will provide a huge boost for our local community as well as a huge attraction to the town and I will continue to give this project my full focus,’ he added.
