THE announcement this week that Clonakilty-based company Global Shares is to create a further 80 jobs was hailed as a vote of confidence in the company and its staff.
The announcement brings the share-selling software firm's total global employee base to 228, with 80% of the new positions to be based primarily at its headquarters at the West Cork Technology Park in Clonakilty.
Speaking at the jobs announcement in Clonakilty, which was also attended by local Independent TD Michael Collins, the Minister of State for Financial Services and Insurance Michael D'Arcy commented on the regard that the senior staff have for everyone who works at Global Shares.
âGlobal Shares is an Irish company that is best in its class and it has achieved this through investment in people and investing heavily in skills and client support,' said Minister D'Arcy.
âEnterprise Ireland has supported this company from the start and it is able to offer opportunities to the diaspora of West Cork. Global Shares sets an example for the rest of the fintech sector and I am pleased that it has invested in the recruitment of new staff.'
The new positions are across a number of areas of the business, including IT, financial, multi-lingual share plan analysts, trading and legal.Â
The latest recruitment drive comes on the back of significant growth in Global Shares' client base, which has grown in the past two years from 150 to 250 clients, based in 25 countries, with participants in over 100 countries.Â
The company now has 10 offices across the world including Clonakilty, Cork city, Dublin, London, Lisbon, New Jersey and Hong Kong.
Richard Hayes, chairman of Global Shares, said that since 2012 the achievement of the company has been quite remarkable and that the company is unique in Ireland.
âThis announcement gives us the opportunity to let more people in Ireland know about us and we have the best system for profit-sharing schemes and I hope the Minister's visit will make an impact,' said Mr Hayes.
Tim Houston, chief executive of Global Shares told those in attendance that they have created the best global system in the market and that they have exceeded their three-year expansion target set in 2015 to create 80 new jobs.
âGlobal Shares has an amazing team of people and Ireland is a great place to do business and we look forward to receiving applications from those who wish to be part of an exciting and cutting edge global company,' said Mr Houston.
