AN ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of drugs in the Castletownbere area resulted in small amounts of drugs being seized by gardaí last week.
While senior gardaí said that no arrests were made, they confirmed that a number of searches were carried out by local gardaí who were accompanied by officers from the Divisional Drugs Unit, armed with search warrants for a number of properties in the fishing town.
The Garda Dog Unit also attended, with one sniffer dog assisting in the searches.
Speaking to The Southern Star, Supt Declan O’Sullivan of Bantry Garda Station, said the searches were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into drug dealing in the town.
‘Small amounts of controlled drugs were seized by officers but no arrests were made at this stage,’ said Supt O’Sullivan. ‘A number of people were questioned and the items seized have been sent forward for forensic analysis,’ he added.
Supt O’Sullivan urged anyone with information about the sale or supply of drugs in Castletownbere to contact gardaí in either Castletownbere (on 027 70002) or in Bantry (on 027 20860) or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
