GARDAÍ in Skibbereen are appealing for the public’s help following a number of thefts in recent weeks, writes Kieran O’Mahony.

A silver Ivor Williams horsebox which stolen from the side of the road in Skeagh, Skibbereen between October 4th and 5th. 

It was recovered at Cahermore Cross a week later but gardaí are still hoping to identify those responsible.

Gardaí are also investigating the theft of copper cables from a construction site in Union Hall between October 3rd and 6th.

‘A builder returned to their site to discover that a quantity of industrial electrical copper cable had been cut and removed at the construction site and gardaí in Skibbereen are investigating this theft,’ said a garda spokesperson.

Gardaí are also investigating the theft of two 12 volt electrical fencers from a property in Curra, Skibbereen between October 12th and 13th, while gardaí in Kinsale are investigating the theft of a wallet from an unlocked car in Belgooly on Friday October 24th.

They have warned people to be alert for change scams, following a recent incident at a retail premises in Dunmanway.

The scam involves someone calling into a shop to ask for change of a €50 note.

However, they change their mind and ask for a different denomination in an attempt to confuse a cashier. A quantity of cash is then pocketed and the retail premises is at a loss.
