The Friends of the Rock committee, a subgroup of Skibbereen Tidy Towns, says it now feels it is time for the community to take ownership of the project to ensure it is cared for into the future.

Cork County Council and West Cork Development Partnership played a pivotal role in the procurement and provision of the community park. But now after 15 years of efforts the Friends of the Rock plan to install street signage and information panels outlining the many features of the park’s history and heritage.

A spokesperson said: ‘The Friends of the Rock would greatly encourage all organisations to utilise the amphitheatre for concerts, school performances and historical talks .
The Friends of the Rock have also been very fortunate to secure the services of a Tús worker. This has been transformative in establishing a high standard of maintenance for which we are very
grateful.

‘This amenity park has tremendous value in the areas of tourism, history, education, entertainment and leisure. The Friends of the Rock Committee are stepping down but nevertheless are very hopeful that another similar committee would be formed to ensure the success of the Park for the future.’
