A former national school principal in Bantry has been appointed the new director of the West Cork Education Centre, based in Dunmanway.
A FORMER national school principal in Bantry has been appointed the new director of the West Cork Education Centre, based in Dunmanway.
Dr Dympna Daly was principal of Our Lady of Mercy NS in Bantry and previously taught in Eyeries and Dublin, as well as working as a planning facilitator with schools in Cork and Kerry.
The West Cork Education Centre provides continuous professional development and support for teachers, special needs assistants (SNAs), schools, parents, boards of management and other relevant partners in the West Cork area.
Dympna Daly co-ordinates this provision, in line with Department of Education and Skills’ policies and practices, with regard to the continuum of learning in education.
The schools in the catchment area include all primary and post primary from Cahermore in the Beara peninsula to the west, to Macroom to the north and Bandon/Kinsale/Innishannon to the east.
The centre is also a resource and meeting place for the local school community and is involved in a range of projects and initiatives.
Presently schools are engaging in the debating competition, the Something Fishy project (learning about river life), the Write a Book project, Scríobh Leabhar project, West Cork Art Centre Elemental project on sculpture, CRAFTed, Local History visits and Chess.
The centre also provides training for teachers on the new primary language curriculum, the Junior Cycle curriculum and digital framework, as well as induction courses for newly qualified teachers.
