Cork County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team convened a number of times today in line with weather forecasts for the weekend ahead and have issued a statement.  

THIS statement has just been issued by Cork County Council:
 
Cork County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team convened a number of times today in line with weather forecasts for the weekend ahead.  At this time, there is a Code Level Orange Weather Warning from Met Eireann in effect.  Prolonged falls of heavy rain are expected overnight Fridayand Saturday with totals of 30 to 50mm.  Larger totals on higher ground.
 

Our road crews will be on standby tonight and throughout the weekend, providing sandbags and flood defences in readiness for a possible flood event.  Heavy duty pumping equipment has been deployed in West Cork towns.

Please exercise caution near overflowing rivers and be aware of standing/moving water on roads.  Avoid drive through floodwater, especially when flowing.
