The floral displays all over Clonakilty town have been much admired with all sections of the community involved in this laudable civic exercise. This year’s judging of the Collins, Brooks & Associates Clonakilty Window Box and Hanging Basket competition took place earlier than usual due to the excellent weather.

Una Fleming of AOIFA, who judged the blooms, complimented all concerned on the exceptional quality of the displays which may have been helped by the heat but also by the obvious extra care required this summer.

She also commented on the excellent choice of colour, particularly on Pearse Street where various presentations complimented each other and most effectively shows off their premises. The Credit Union was also singled out for its clever interpretation of the flow of the water along the river, with the blue and yellow colour combination. According to the judge, several premises were in contention for Best Overall, but The Chunky Chip display really had that ‘wow’ factor.

The prize-giving ceremony for all category winners will take place at a later date and the Best Overall will be presented with the Liam and Betty Collins perpetual rose bowl in this, the 75th anniversary of the solicitor firm’s year in Clonakilty and their 34th year of unbroken generous sponsorship of the competition.
