WITH rehearsals already underway, this year’s crew of eager dancers for Strictly Clon Dancing are putting their best feet forward to outshine last year’s participants.

The 2016 Strictly Clon Dancing launch party takes place at Clonakilty GAA Club on Saturday, September 24th at 8.30pm, where the 50 dancers who have been selected to take part will find out who their partners are.

Following the success of last year’s event, which raised thousands of euro for both Clonakilty GAA Club and Clonakilty RFC, this year’s event promises more sparkling sequins and extravagant dance steps. ‘Everybody will recall the excitement in the town and surrounding areas with what became the “Strictly phenomenon” this time last year,’ said Helen Houlihan, PRO.

‘It was the talk of the area for many weeks and tickets were sold out immediately. The dancers put their hearts and souls into their routines, which were of the highest standard and Kate O’Sullivan and Colm Sheehy emerged victorious on the final night.’

Following the launch party, the 25 couples will have to start rehearsing their moves ahead of the first semi-final on November 5th, which takes place in Inchydoney Lodge & Spa.

The second semi-final is in Fernhill House Hotel on November 12th with the final taking place in Dunmore House Hotel on November 19th.

‘Last year’s event was a fantastic spectacle and the standard of dancing was amazing and what’s great, too, is that this event generates much-needed funds for both vibrant clubs, who provide fantastic amenities for the youth of Clonakilty.’

Last year’s event also raised funds for four charities – Clonakilty Sensory Unit, Temple Street Children’s Foundation, St Anne’s Ward in the Mercy Hospital and the Children’s Leukaemia Association.
