IT’S feared that a new traffic management plan for Bandon could turn ‘the Gateway to West Cork’ into the ‘Bottleneck of Bandon’.

Bandon Road Safety – a community group recently set up – is calling on Cork County Council to urgently re-consider the T-PREP (Transportation and Public Realm Enhancement Plan) plan for the town.

Alan Tennyson of Bandon Road Safety said the plan will leave the town with ‘two half-completed by-passes’ and will still see HGVs continue to struggle through the town.

‘We believe that this is a serious issue for everyone in West Cork and all our businesses which are reliant on getting HGVs through Bandon,’ said Alan.

The group believe that a plan to create a northern bypass from the Cork Rd to the Macroom Rd, with heavy HGV traffic coming down Kilbrogan Hill, will lead to traffic congestion for residents.

Residents on Kilbrogan Hill are also concerned about plans to remove parking on that hill.

A public meeting will take place in Copper Grove on Monday September 9th at 7pm and local councillors and TDs have been invited.
