AIB is to sponsor the National Digital Week which is being held in Skibbereen for the second time, next November.

The Week, which is organised by the Ludgate digital hub, was a huge success when the inaugural event was held in the town last year.

The four-day event attracted 1600 attendees to hear speakers from such heavy hitters as Google, Vodafone, Microsoft, PayPal, Discovery, the ESA and Enterprise Ireland.

It was held in two venues – the West Cork Hotel and the Old Printworks building in the Southern Star offices.

This year’s event is aiming to attract even more people to Skibbereen, given the Web Summit – which vied for the big names and attendees with West Cork – is now moving to Portugal. It will take place from November 10th – 12th.

Now AIB has agreed to come on board, following the announcement of a sponsorship deal by the bank’s regional manager in Cork, John O’Doherty.

‘We are delighted to announce that we have penned a three-year agreement with Ludgate that will see us sponsoring the National Digital Week, and we are thrilled with that. We want all of Cork to see the benefit of what is being rolled out here in front of us,’ he said at the official opening of the Ludgate hub recently.
