The court heard that the defendant had 21 previous convictions, including road traffic offences, public order offences, possession of drugs and theft.
Defence solicitor Flor Murphy said his client was originally from Charleville and had moved to West Cork with his girlfriend and two children.
‘They were in homeless accommodation in Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Glengarriff before they got a council house in Skibbereen,’ said Mr Murphy.
He said his client had struggled with cocaine and cannabis use in the past and recently attended addiction treatment and is now off drugs for a month.
The court heard that the accused moved to Galway recently and is hopeful of securing job in the dairy industry.
Judge Joanne Carroll placed him on a one-year probation bond, on condition that he cooperates with the Probation Services, attends addiction treatment and gets counselling.
