Ahiohill Tidy Towns won Bronze Medals at the Pride in our Community Awards which were held in the Kingsley Hotel recently. Their project involved a mural created by a local artist depicting the area’s rich heritage and traditional values. There was a very exciting day at Clogagh Nationial School last week when past pupils, playing with Ballinascarthy GAA and camogie clubs, visited the school with their recently won cups to celebrate with the present pupils.

Aoife Hayes, Aoife O'Driscoll, Rebecca O'Leary, Joanne O'Brien, Grace De Long, Abbie Barrett, Orlaith Crowley and Alannah O'Connell, Transition Year students at Sacred Heart Secondary School heard about the work of West Cork Rapid Response and the equipment that is purchased out of fundraising by volunteer Liam Slattery.

.Coláiste Ghobnatan TY students enjoying their social awareness class with helpful advice from West Cork Rapid Response's Betty Hennessy, Kate Crowley and Liam Slattery when they visited the school last week.

Local author ER Murray visited Schull Library recently to deliver a workshop based on her latest book Arabella Pepper: The Wild Detective. Pupils from Scoil Mhuire NS were invited to attend the intriguing event during which the author explained her writing process. The children were encouraged to investigate new ideas, characters and stories. This event was part of the library service’s Children’s Book Festival programme.

Ben Greenham Taylor, a student at Schull Community College, was recently named a finalist in the Frank Maher Classical Music Awards.

Proceeds of €1,300 from the Ballydehob Cheval Ride earlier this year was presented by James Levis of the Sandboat Bar to Kate Crowley and Liam Slattery for West Cork Rapid Response.

Emma Crowley will be representing Ireland in the Coupe de la Jeunesse Beach Sprint Championships in La Linea de la Concepcion, Cadiz, Spain.
