Carbery Macra have had an action-packed fortnight, filled with achievements, activities, and plenty of craic, not least at last weekend’s National Macra Rally at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery.
The weekend was hailed a resounding success, with members enjoying a weekend full of fun and friendly competition.

A farm walk took place on Tommy Moyles beef farm in Ardfield as a part of the Macra rally weekend with Bantry’s John Buckley and Adrian Buckley, Dunmanway, joining in.
Among those recognised were Anthony Buckley from Caheragh Macra was crowned Senior Beef Stock Judging Champion, while Ellen Lucey of Dunmanway Macra took home the title of Munster’s Best New Member. Congratulations to both!
In ‘Impromptu Public Speaking’, Christy McCarthy (Kilmeen Macra, and Southern Star columnist) claimed first place, followed closely by Fiona O’Leary of Bantry Macra in second.
Participants were praised for their confidence and creativity on stage.
Meanwhile, the Welding Competition at Darrara College sparked some great local success as Diarmuid Bilous of Bantry Macra secured first place with James Jennings of Clonakilty Macra in second. Sinead Connolly, Ballinascarthy Macra, was named Best Female Welder.
The ‘Know Your Agriculture’ quiz winners from the Muskerry Region, representing Terelton Macra Club, were John Downey, Eoin Kelleher, Tom Downey and Adam O’Leary.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for Halloween night on Friday, October 31st, when members are heading to Leisureplex Cork for a night of bowling and fancy dress, with prizes for the best costumes.
The celebrations will continue with a social in Clancy’s from 9pm.

Kicking off November, Caheragh Macra will travel to Monaghan for the All-Ireland Football competition on November 2nd, fielding both men’s and women’s teams.
