A PROBATION report was ordered for a Bandon man alleged to have been involved in the sale and supply of drugs.

Stephen Looney Webb (25), of Castledon Court, Bandon, was charged at Clonakilty District Court with the possession of drugs and the possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply.

Gardaí searched an address at O’Mahoney Avenue, Bandon on February 8th 2024 and found €165 in cash, €200 worth of cannabis and €800 worth of cocaine, along with deal bags and a mixing agent.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy said the accused came into Bandon Garda Station 12 days later and took responsibility. He said he and a friend had gone to the pub and made a plan to sell the drugs.

The court heard that the defendant had nine previous convictions for public order and criminal damage.

Defence Solicitor Éamonn Fleming said his client, who is unemployed, was sharing the house with two other people at the time and there had been ten grams of cocaine and seven grams of cannabis in the property.

‘I believe he built up a drug debt with a family that has a long history of drug dealing in West Cork. I believe there was an element of coercion involved. While he accepts his full responsibility, he was ultimately picking up the tab here,’ said Mr Fleming. ‘He has previously worked but his addiction has scuppered that.’

‘This man is 25 years old and has pleaded guilty, although it took some time before he went to Gardaí,’ said Judge Carroll.

‘When you convict a young person for the sale and supply of drugs, that criminal record is there for the rest of their lives. This man has no previous convictions for drug offences. I will ask for a probation report to give him another chance.’

The judge ordered a probation report and adjourned the case to December 2nd. All current bail conditions would remain in place, including the observation of a curfew b
