DANIEL Twomey’s Newcestown are just one point off the promotion places in Co-Op Superstores county hurling league Division 2 following a commanding 0-24 to 1-12 win over Carrigaline.
Richard O’Sullivan was key for the Carbery men, hitting 0-13 (8f). In a game where they had 11 different scorers, Newcestown led 0-11 to 0-5 at the break.
Eddie Kenneally struck 0-2 while Luke Meade, Colm O’Donovan, Jack Meade, Daire McAree, James Kelleher, Ciarán O’Donovan, Colm Dinneen, Seamus O’Sullivan and Humphrey Canty all scored 0-1 each.

Currently occupying the top two places are Erin’s Own and Bride Rovers and both faced off in the recent round of games. Erin’s Own came out on top, winning 3-14 to 0-17, and are in first place with two matches to go.
Newcestown’s final two games are against Newtownshandrum and Bride Rovers with the latter looking like a promotion decider. Elsewhere, Valley Rovers and Newtown saw off Na Piarsaigh and Ballymartle.
In Division 3, Bandon remain one point outside the top two but suffered their second defeat of the campaign, falling narrowly to Fermoy (0-23 to 0-22). Second-placed Blarney lost to Inniscarra 1-23 to 3-12, making things tight at the summit.
With Courcey Rovers beating Lisgoold (1-22 to 2-16), the Ballinspittle club are in first place (ten points), followed by Blarney (ten), Bandon and Inniscarra (both nine). Castlelyons defeated Russell Rovers in the other third tier match.
Barryroe are challenging for promotion from Division 7 following a 3-16 to 1-18 victory away to Kilshannig. Goals by Luke Murphy (1-3), Seán Holland (1-2) and Cian O’Sullivan were crucial while Olan O’Donovan (0-3). Tomas Ó Buachalla (0-2), Diarmuid McCarthy, Michael Whelton, Daniel Moloney, Ryan O’Donovan, Conor Madden and Jack Murphy were also on target. Only Ballinora, Killeagh and Passage West are ahead of the Carbery club and all three beat St Finbarr’s. Douglas and Meelin in the latest round.
Kilbrittain sit mid-table in Division 5 after losing to Castlemartyr (1-20 to 2-15). The Black and Amber’s promotion hopes will end if Cloyne beat Youghal in their game in hand. The West Cork club need just one more win to avoid relegation. Dungourney are all but promoted having seen off Midleton while Ballygarvan beat Tracton to jump out of the relegation zone.
The three Carbery clubs in Division 6 are embroiled in a fight for survival after they all suffered defeats. Ballinascarthy sit just one point clear of the bottom two following a 3-28 to 1-25 loss to Aghada. Argideen Rangers and Diarmuid Ó Mathúnas are two points clear of the drop after being defeated by Ballygiblin (4-15 to 1-19) and Sarsfields (2-19 to 1-14) respectively. Mayfield occupy one of the demotion places and were defeated by Killavullen.
Midleton are through to the Division 1 final following a win over Carrigtwohill and it looks like county champions Sarsfields will join them after they defeated Douglas.
