Skibbereen RFC’s top scorer in the Munster Club U16 final at Thomond Park, Jordi O’Brien, was presented with the first quarterly West Cork Youth Sports Star award of 2017 at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery on Friday evening.

The awards are run by the hotel in partnership with The Southern Star and c103, and there was a large contingent from the Skibbereen Rugby Club present to celebrate the success of the U16 team, which brought off a notable treble in the 2016/’17 season, winning the Munster Club U16 Cup final as well as the South Munster U16 cup and league titles.

The biggest of these wins was the Munster Club U16 Cup final at Thomond Park in Limerick when they beat Kinsale 39-13 with Jordi O’Brien getting 24 points of their impressive tally. Accepting the trophy, Jordi thanked all his teammates, coaches, club officials, parents and the sponsors of the award. He will be considered, along with the other three quarterly winners, yet to be chosen, for the overall West Cork Youth Sports Star of the Year for 2017.
