CHRISTMAS came early to four lucky West Cork national schools and clubs this week – thanks to your sports-mad Southern Star.

Over the last few weeks, The Southern Star’s Big Kit Giveaway mega competition created huge interest in West Cork with €3,500 of O’Neill’s vouchers up for grabs. The biggest competition ever run by the Star resulted in the biggest ever entry, and from those, four lucky finalists were plucked from the draw box last Friday week.

They were Norma Harte on behalf of Timoleague National School, Carmel Daly for O’Donovan Rossa Ladies Football Club, Patricia Price who nominated St Joseph’s Girls’ National School in Clonakilty and Jacinta Veale for Skibbereen Rugby Club.

All four finalists were invited to the new Star Studio at The Southern Star’s HQ on Tuesday where the grand final draw took place, with two finalists to receive vouchers worth €1,500 each and the other two finalists to win €250 vouchers each.

Luck smiled on the two Skibbereen clubs as they were selected from the draw box as the winning entries. The video of the draw is on southernstar.ie.

Star Sports Editor Kieran McCarthy said: ‘We want to congratulate all the four finalists who each took home a prize that we know will be well spent and go to good use.

‘We also want to say a huge thanks to everyone who took the time to enter the Big Kit Giveaway.

‘It was the biggest entry for a competition that we’ve ever had. We were overwhelmed by the response so a huge thanks to all our readers for taking the time to enter.

‘We love our sport here in the Star so it’s great to give something back to the community and our readers.’
