LUCA Roza from West Cork Kickboxing Club won a brilliant bronze at the Junior and Older Cadet World Championships held in Jesolo, Italy.

Luca was part of a six-strong contingent from the club representing Ireland at the championships.

She was fighting in the Low Kick Older Cadet category, against fighters from all over the world.

On the way to her medal, she fought Hungarian and Greek fighters, fighting superbly to overcome both. Luca faced an Italian in the semi-finals and fought tremendously, but the Italian prevailed on that occasion. However, it is a fantastic achievement for the West Cork club’s fighter and testament to her hard work and the expertise of head coach Ian Kingston.

The other members of the West Cork club’s team were Luc Cronin, Grainne Begley, Gearoid Debarbouille, Michael Collins and Botond Roza. Ian was delighted with Luca’s performance and indeed the performances of all his fighters, stating that they all fought superbly well and were able to hold their own with the best in the world.

Ian’s focus now turns to the senior European Championships, where the club has four fighters representing Ireland at this competition to be held in Slovenia this coming November.

Tony Stephenson, Ian Hurley, Lily de la Cour and Deirdre Begley are in the final preparations for the week-long event which is the highlight of the year for these senior club members.

West Cork Kickboxing Club would like to acknowledge the continued tremendous sponsorship it receives from its sponsors, The Brick Oven, Calor Gas, and Laide and O’Brien. These sponsors are essential for the club’s development and to enable the fighters to take part in national and international competitions.
