One of Beara's finest-ever footballers will be inducted into an All-Ireland Hall of Fame next month.

ONE of Beara’s finest-ever footballers will be inducted into an All-Ireland Hall of Fame next month.

Arigole legend Kevin Jer O’Sullivan will be honoured by scoreboardmemories.com – in association with Adrigole GAA Club and Eccles Hotel – when it adds him to its exclusive online gallery of Irish sports legends at a special event at the Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff on Friday, September 22nd, starting at 8.30pm.

The iconic Michéal Ó Muircheartaigh will present the special tribute show on the night along with Derry JF Doody (editor and promote of the All-Ireland Hall of Fame on scoreboardmemories.com).

‘For many years I had Kevin Jer on my radar as a potential Hall of Fame subject and I am now pleased to confirm we are recognising Kevin as one of Adrigole’s and Beara’s most famous football sons. In a long and illustrious club and county football career, Kevin became a worthy ambassador for the promotion of Gaelic football in the island of Ireland,’ Doody explained.

Two-time All-Star footballer Kevin Jer played at right half back when the Rebels won the All-Ireland SFC title in 1973 and he was also named on the Cork team of the century in 1984.

He also helped Beara win a Cork SFC title in 1967, and his performances that year saw him handed his chance with Cork in 1968, making his debut in the league against Galway.

The Adrigole man won his first Munster SFC title in 1971, was named an All-Star defender in ’72 before helping Cork win the All-Ireland senior football crown in ’73; he won his second All-Star that season.

Kevin Jer and Cork won Munster again in ’74 but lost to Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final, and ’75 was his last season at inter-county level, Kerry getting the better of Cork in that year’s Munster final.

In his club career he captained Adrigole to the Cork IFC title in 1979 and also won eight Beara junior championships.

The main sponsor of the tribute night to Kevin Jer on September 22nd is Finbarr O’Shea, Glenview Heating Ltd, and the event promises to combine sport and music to honour O’Sullivan’s fantastic career.
