LIAM Coombes’ 17th minute goal was the decisive score in Ilen Rovers’ South West U21 A football championship final win (1-8 to 0-10) against Newcestwown in Drimoleague on Saturday evening.

Coombes goaled in an Ilen purple patch as they scored 1-2 in three minutes to take a 1-5 to 0-5 lead by the break.

Sean O’Donovan, with four frees, Jack Bushe (0-3) and Peter O’Driscoll (0-1) all scored for the winners, while brave Newcestown went down fighting, producing a battling second half display that saw them draw level (1-5 to 0-8 by the 36th minute) but they did miss chances to move ahead.

Ilen hit the front again, with scores from O’Donovan and Bushe keeping them ahead in the final straight, despite Newcestown scores from Sean O’Donovan and Jack O’Toole.
