Loss to Kildare leads to question marks over Brian Cuthbert's role as his two-year term has come to an end

BY KIERAN McCARTHY

BRIAN Cuthbert’s future as Cork senior football manager is uncertain following the county’s dismal 1-21 to 1-13 All-Ireland SFC round four qualifier defeat to Kildare in Thurles on Saturday night.

The Cork boss declined to talk to the media at Semple Stadium following the shock loss that has ended the Rebels’ football season before the quarter-final stage for the first time since 2004.

Cork should have beaten Kerry in the drawn Munster SFC final a few weeks ago, only to be denied by a late equaliser, but they failed to deliver the goods in Semple Stadium against Kildare.

Cuthbert has been in charge of Cork for the past two seasons, succeeding Conor Counihan, and Saturday night’s demoralising defeat to Kildare has brought an end to his two-year term.

The question now is whether he will be in charge again next season?
