CLONAKILTY CC came from seven points down in the first half before beating West Cork neighbours, St Fachtna’s of Skibbereen, by five points (1-12 to 1-7) in their Corn Ui Mhuiri opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Fachtna’s raced into a 1-6 to 0-2 lead in the first half with Cork minor Stephen Leonard getting the goal, but Clon came back with a Sean Ryan goal, followed by points from Sean O’Donoghue and Ross Mannix. It was 1-6 each at the break.

The stronger Clon side took control in the second half with Mark White a key figure in midfield, and scores from Mannix (who finished with 0-5) and David Lowney (0-3) saw them safely home.

Stephen Leonard finished with 1-3 for St Fachtna’s.

Also in this group, Mercy Mounthawk Tralee beat Coláiste Cholim, Ballincollig, by 2-16 to 3-10.
