WEST Cork’s win as the Restaurant Association of Ireland’s Foodie Destination 2017 has been hailed as a victory for everybody – A Taste of West Cork Food Festival, producers, restaurateurs, and discerning consumers.

Competition judges said the pride and passion that our food producers and retailers have about their products, has set the benchmark for food tourism in Ireland.

The area beat off competition from last year’s winners, Boyne Valley, who came in second place; Kilkenny, in third spot; Kinsale in fourth and West Waterford, fifth.

Fiona Field, manager of A Taste of West Cork Food Festival said their application was a co-ordinated effort: ‘It was a real unification of West Cork. It wasn’t just A Taste of West Cork, it was Siobhán Burke on Sheep’s Head, Ruth Healy of Urru Culinary Store in Bandon, Kate Ryan of Flavour.ie, and others too.’
