Ahead of the Bank Holiday period, An Garda Síochána are urging motorists to leave a safe distance when overtaking cyclists.

Ahead of the Bank Holiday period, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, the RSA and An Garda Síochána and Phil Skelton of the ‘Staying Alive at 1.5’ campaign are urging motorists to leave a safe distance when overtaking cyclists and renew their appeal to all road users to act responsibly when travelling on the roads.

To date in 2018, six cyclists have been killed on Irish roads, compared to four to the same period last year. There was a 50% increase in cyclists’ deaths in 2017 vs 2016. The RSA want to educate drivers on sharing the roads safely with cyclists and motorists’ responsibility to cyclists as vulnerable road users.
