Two exciting opportunities for West Cork-based artists are being offered by the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen.

TWO exciting opportunities for West Cork-based artists are being offered by the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen.

The first is a call for artist members to submit work for Uillinn’s members’ exhibition. Last year, the first members’ exhibition in the new building attracted over 5,000 visitors in three weeks to view over 300 artworks by 134 artists.

This year the exhibition will open to the public on Friday of the June bank holiday weekend and will include painting, sculpture, drawing, print, photography and mixed media work by established and emerging West Cork artists.

A showcase for the artistic talent of West Cork, this exhibition is also an opportunity for art lovers to find something special to take home. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday May 24th.

The second is an opportunity for artists to get involved in developing the identity and profile of West Cork’s artistic community.

Venturing into the recent phenomenon of colouring books for adults, Uillinn is producing a book featuring the work of West Cork artists which will be aimed primarily at the tourist market, for visitors to Uillinn over the summer who may want to buy a souvenir of their visit.

The book will feature images based on West Cork, its landscape and people, and will celebrate the wealth of talented artists residing in this area. Artists who wish to participate will be given support in adapting an artwork of theirs into a colouring book design, through practical workshops at Uillinn on Friday May 27th.
