Second cyclist injured in West Cork

Another cyclist was injured this evening after being knocked off his bicycle when a car collided with it at Barr na Gaoithe between Durrus and Bantry.

The local man in his 40s was out on a training spin when a car collided with his bicycle and he was knocked off it. Medical attention was given at the scene and the man's injuries are not believed to be serious. Gardai are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, a man was airlifted to hospital following an accident with a car outside Skibbereen.

The cyclist is believed to have collided with the car after midday at Saunder’s Cross, about two miles from the town, and suffered serious injuries.

Two ambulances and West Cork Rapid Response attended the scene and gardaí were also in attendance.

The cyclist, an adult male from the locality, was airlifted from the scene by helicopter to Cork University Hospital.
