KWD recycling says that a new record was set on the highways and byways of West Cork recently when over 300 volunteers turned out for the annual spring clean.

KWD RECYCLING says that a new record was set on the highways and byways of West Cork recently when over 300 volunteers turned out for the annual spring clean.

The clean-up day was facilitated by the waste firm, in conjunction with Cork County Council.

One of those who turned out on the day was none other than Steve Redmond, world record holder for the Seven Oceans challenge and active member of Ballydehob Tidy Towns committee, who joined the day along with some of his fellow volunteers.

‘This year saw the participation of 22 different community groups and Tidy Towns committees, almost double last year’s turnout,’ said David Sheahan of KWD, who says the day helps to rid West Cork of this blight on our beautiful landscape.

Members of the Skibbereen Bowling Club also joined in the clean-up, starting at Ballyhilty Bridge, with the aim of doing a litter pick on all the bowling roads throughout the Carbery region.

‘This is a great initiative by a sporting body to clean some of the byeways of West Cork and we will give them all the support we can by supplying bags, vests and of course removing and processing the collected litter,’ said David.‘We at KWD Recycling would like to congratulate all those involved for their great community spirit and effort,’ he said.

He added that if any group would like to register an interest in getting involved in the 2017 clean-up, they should email [email protected]
