THE Berehaven Red Cross fundraising walk from Ardgroom to Bere Island, which took place recently, raised €2,660.

The organisers thanked all those who took part in the 27.9km walk and all who supported them along the way.

Thanks was extended to Brid and Joe Hanley, who sponsored the water; Brian Boss O’Sullivan for the signs; Causkey’s Bar, Eyeries, for the refreshments in the morning; Mary O’Sullivan for the scones; SuperValu for all their help and co-operation; bucket collectors in Castletownbere, especially Austin, Pádraigín, Sue, Grace and Marese; Bere Island Ferries for the outward trip to Bere Island and Murphy’s Ferry for the return trip;  Maria Murphy at Bere Island Hotel for lunch and Edel Murphy at the Bakehouse Café for afternoon tea; Anne Marie Cronin for the photographs, and Katy and Brendan Lynch for the safety car.

The group had been aiming to raise €1,800 to cover the cost of replacing six batteries in defibrillators throughout Beara, however €2,660 will now also allow them to also fund training courses.
