The request for the tests is to confirm a submission made by his solicitor Flor Murphy that his client is no longer using cocaine and is drug-free.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy told Bantry District Court Gda Shannon Ryan obtained a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act and searched a rental-premises, where the accused was living at The Rock in Castletownbere on the evening of September 29th last.
Cocaine valued at €100 was seized and the accused admitted it was for his own personal use.
The sergeant also told the court that Richard Harvey has three previous convictions for drugs but they date back to 2016.
Mr Murphy said his client was 'an irregular user,' but he has stopped using cocaine completely since the search.
Judge Carroll said that all being well the case could be dealt with leniently on the next occasion.
