Ballygarvan woman Lilly O'Sullivan, a volunteer with Marymount Hospice, was named as a Hospice Sunflower Hero at an event in Dublin last week, to mark the launch of National Sunflower Days in June.
BALLYGARVAN woman Lilly O’Sullivan, a volunteer with Marymount Hospice, was named as a Hospice Sunflower Hero at an event in Dublin last week, to mark the launch of National Sunflower Days in June.
The award was presented to Lilly by the RTE presenter Mary Kennedy, at an award ceremony attended by hospice volunteers in the Mansion House in Dublin.
In total, 14 dedicated local volunteers from around the country were honoured at the awards.
Lilly was nominated for her tireless work with the Friends of Marymount over the past 16 years. She became a volunteer with the service after seeing the great care that some of her friends and family received in Marymount a number of years ago.
Lilly makes herself available for every fundraising event that the Friends of Marymount organise and when she helps at a fundraising event she throws herself into the work, often working long hours to ensure these events run smoothly, the judges heard.
They were told she is passionate about raising funds to support the patients and families at Marymount. The 2015 Sunflower Days take place on Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th.
Over the two days members of the public will be asked to support their local hospice service by purchasing various pieces of Sunflower merchandise, including sunflower pins for €2 each, from collectors on the streets of cities, towns and villages around the country. There will be lots of volunteers collecting throughout Cork.
