GARDAÍ have arrested a man in his thirties after seizing over €250,000 worth of cannabis in West Cork.
An operation which took place tonight near Ballymakeera resulted in the arrest of the man, who is currently being detained at Bandon Garda Station. A spokesperson said a house had been under surveillance in the area and that the investigation is still ongoing.
Gardaí from the West Cork drugs unit, backed up by regional support units, carried out the raid on the house and the drugs have now been sent for forensic examination.
In recent months, over €1m worth of drugs have been seized in the West Cork area, and the division’s Chief Supt Con Cadogan thanked the public for their assistance in the ongoing fight against drug crime. He urged anyone with any information on the sale or supply of drugs in the area to make contact with their local garda station or the confidential garda hotline (1800 666111).
‘I have no problem taking a call myself on this matter, at any time,’ he added. ‘The public should not take it for granted that we know when drugs are being sold in an area, I would encourage anyone with this information to pick up the phone and pass on the information.’
