A 51-YEAR-old man appeared before a special sitting of Bandon District Court this morning where he was charged with 42 counts of rape and sexual assault.

The man, who cannot be named, was arrested at Dublin Airport yesterday after he was extradited from the UK on foot of a European Arrest warrant.

He was then taken to Bandon Garda Station where gardaí put the 42 charges to him for offences that occurred between 2004 and 2008.

Det Gda Maurice Shanley gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution, in court.

The court heard that the main alleged victim would be known to the accused.

Gardaí objected to bail being granted for the man and Judge James McNulty remanded the accused in custody to appear at a sitting of Clonakilty District Court next Tuesday, February 5th.
