Niamh McCarthy, a teacher at Lisheen National School, wrote 'Our Olympic Heroes: for Gary and Paul O'Donovan, two former and now famous past pupils.

The teachers and pupils at Lisheen National School have done it again. Teacher, Niamh McCarthy, has penned a new song “Our Olympic Heroes”, which 10-year old Dominic Casey – son of the ‘third man’ on the boat, coach Dominic Casey Senior – had the honour of singing at the triumphant homecoming on Monday night.

The song honours Olympic silver medallists, Gary and Paul O’Donovan, for ‘their strength of spirit’ and names them as ‘the boys that dared to dream.’ The tributes on Monday humbled Gary and Paul who said: ‘Events like this make us proud to say we are from Cork, we are from West Cork, but most importantly we are from Skibbereen.’
