SIR – I could not quite believe my ears when I heard that many issues and mistakes of the past are now being used somehow to justify advocating repeal of the 8th amendment.

SIR – I could not quite believe my ears when I heard that many issues and mistakes of the past are now being used somehow to justify advocating repeal of the 8th amendment.

For example, Barry Cowen, TD, mentioning the Magdalene laundries and Joanne Hayes. What do the Magdalene laundries have to do with repeal of the 8th?

Where is it documented that these women wanted an abortion? It appears to me that these women desperately wanted to be with their babies.

Where is it documented that Joanne Hayes requested an abortion? People should rally against past injustices, but as far as I can see these cases are being exploited by pro-choice activists who are somehow linking these past issues to the current day call for a ‘woman’s right to choose.’

But, in present day Ireland, the choice being called for is the choice to kill one’s own pre-born baby, who asks for nothing more than the love and protection of its mother.

Your sincerely,

Frances Kelleher,

Killarney.
