Golf skills on show at Dunmore competition

COPE Foundation, Clonakilty, held their sixth annual Golf Skills Competition on Thursday October 5th.

COPE Foundation, Clonakilty, held their sixth annual Golf Skills Competition on Thursday October 5th. The day started with morning refreshments in the wonderful Dunmore House Hotel, generously sponsored by Richard and Carol Barrett. 

Fourteen teams, from Fermoy to Castletownbere, travelled to the event. The sun shone on the golfers as they battled it out through putting, chipping and pitching at the beautiful Dunmore Golf course. 

This venue was kindly given for the event by club captain John John O’Driscoll and the members, while the additional equipment for the event was supplied by Geoff Wycherley of the Rosscarbery Driving Range. 

Deputy Mayor of Clonakilty Gretta O’ Donovan presented the awards at the prize giving where the Paddy McCarthy Perpetual Team Cup went to the team of Michael Broderick, Jerry Crowley, Don Carroll and Tim O’Shea from Mallow; the silver medals went to the local COPE Clonakilty team Leo Buckley, Éamonn Donnelly, John Reardon and Wayne O’Sullivan, while the bronze prize went to the Glasheen team. 

Individual prizes also went to William McCarthy (Cork) for best putting score followed closely by Éamonn Donnelly (Bandon); John Sheehan (Castletownbere) took gold the for the  best chipping score and Joe Hosford (Cork) took the prize for best pitching score. 

A new perpetual trophy, sponsored by the club captain, for best overall score went to Leo Buckley (Bandon). Thanks went to everyone who helped to make the event such a success.
