CORK County Council is currently drafting a programme for the upcoming centenary.

The schedule is being prepared by Cork County Council’s All-Party 1916 Centenary Commemorative Committee and a county co-ordinator has also been appointed.

‘Whether you are a member of a local historical society, sports club, amateur drama club or community group, or even if this is something that is purely a personal interest, this is an opportunity to share ideas, pool resources and be part of the creation of a unique and distinctive local programme to mark Ireland 2016,’ said a Council spokesperson.

With this in mind, Cork County Council is hosting meetings for anyone interested in participating in the development and delivery of Cork’s local programme. In West Cork, a meeting was held in Clonakilty Library earlier this week to gauge interest in, and garner ideas for, the commemorations. Cork County Council is also seeking written submissionsfrom interested parties with suitable ideas, events and suggestions for commemorating 1916. Closing date for submissions is Friday June 19th at 4pm. Send them to Conor Nelligan, ‘Ireland 2016’ Cork County Co-ordinator, Cork County Council, Floor 3, County Hall, Cork or by email to [email protected]
