The people of Clonakilty, and visitors to the town, are invited to witness the installation of the new Mayor of Clonakilty.

The people of Clonakilty, and visitors to the town, are invited to witness the installation of the new Mayor of Clonakilty, Anthony McDermott, at a public ceremony at 8pm at Astna Square in the town centre on Thursday June 9th.

This will follow the tradition which was set two years ago when Ireland’s first-ever directly-elected Mayor, Colette Twomey, was installed, and last year when Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin took over for his one-year term.

Clonakilty is the only town in the country now with a town mayor.

The changeover ceremony is held each year in Astna Square in a public event, because the Mayor is of the people.

The outgoing Mayor Cionaith will give a short speech outlining a synopsis of his activities during the year, before handing over the Mayoral robe and chain to his successor, new Mayor Anthony McDermott.
