A SKIBBEREEN sheepdog has been reunited with his family after a quick-thinking local spotted he was in distress.
Ann from Drimoleague came across ‘Ben’ who was in an obviously distressed state at the Water Works Treatment Plant in Skibbereen.
Ben had got himself locked into the plant in Skibbereen and couldn’t get out. The same afternoon it was raining heavily, causing further distress to the frightened dog.
Ann stayed with Ben, and contacted the gardaí, Cork County Council and local animal welfare groups and in the end took the dog to her own home to look after him.
Ann also rang her local radio station C103 and spoke to Patricia Messinger on air on the Cork Today show to highlight what had happened.
Animal lover Patricia also appealed for help and eventually a neighbour heard the appeal and realised the lost dog was Ben, who lived nearby.
Thankfully, that evening Ann met the owners and Ben was reunited with his family. ‘The dog was delighted to meet them,’ Ann said.
Ann revealed that her own dog, who had died in 2012, was also called Ben.
