ALMOST 400 hundred people registered for Bantry’s Operation Transformation launch last Monday night, with almost 200 ‘weighing in’ on the night.

As the whole country catches ‘OT fever’, Bantry Athletic Club’s initiative was just one of several taking place around Ireland as the RTE show kicked off this week.

The annual RTE Operation Transformation Nationwide Walks also kicked of this weekend, with over 50 organised for various locations around the country on Saturday. 

Mother-of-two Clare Scanlan, who is originally from Castlefreke in Clonakilty, but now lives in Monagea in Co Limerick, was selected as the third leader for the new TV series which began on Wednesday night.

 This year Operation Transformation, sponsored by Safefood, is putting it up to the nation to collectively lose one million pounds in one year. 

Bantry kick-started the project with its hugely successful launch night at the Westlodge Hotel.

Over 15 groups are competing in the town’s Group Weigh-in Challenge including staff from Rowa, Drinagh Bantry, The Westlodge Hotel, The Maritime, The Mad Mothers, and more. 

More than 20 exhibitors supported Bantry’s OT plan by showcasing several running classes, courses and promotions at Monday night’s event. Adrian Cronin is Bantry Operation Transformation’s Weight Loss Leader, weighing in at 17st-plus, Adrian is going to eat wisely, exercise and lose the pounds.

 His progress can be followed on the ‘Bantry Operation Transformation’ page on Facebook. Steve Redmond gave an inspirational speech to keep everyone focused for the next eight weeks’ work. Bantry Operation Transformation is still looking for participants so join them next Monday night at the Westlodge Hotel  from 5.30-6.30pm for the second weigh-in, which is free of charge.  

In Bishopstown in Cork, there will be a run at 10am at the CIT Athletics Track for a distance of 4.5km on Saturday morning. For more see
