Support for mental health and wellbeing takes centre stage throughout October during the West Cork Feel Good Festival.

Organised by 49 North Street in partnership with the HSE and local community groups, the month-long event features workshops, concerts, performances, and various activities designed to raise awareness and offer resources.

Events are happening across towns and villages, including Skibbereen, Dunmanway, Bantry, and Clonakilty, in venues like community centres, libraries, schools, and GAA pitches.

Highlights include the Behind the Curtain drama weekend in Skibbereen, laughing yoga and comedy with Shane Clifford, plus concerts featuring acclaimed musicians Nóirín Ní Riain and John Spillane.

Other activities include neuroinclusive events, and Irish language programmes, all promoting connection and inclusion.

Festival founder and mental health specialist Kevin O’Shanahan emphasised that mental health was everyone’s business, praising the collaboration of volunteers, funders, and community partners in creating welcoming spaces.

HSE South West’s Declan Cronin describes the festival as a powerful example of communities breaking down stigma through creativity and conversation.

The festival responds to local feedback, addressing loneliness, isolation, and stigma to foster community spirit and support.
