Fernhill Road: scene of fatal accident tonight

AN elderly male pedestrian has been fatally injured after a road traffic accident in Clonakilty.

The man (73) was walking in the Fernhill area of the town at approx 7.15pm when he was knocked down by a car being driven by a female motorist.

Fernhill Road is currently closed while gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Clonakilty gardaí are investigating the incident.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses who may have travelled this road between 7.00pm and 7.30pm to contact them.

They are also asking that a man who assisted at the scene by providing a jacket contact them at 023 8821570, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
